I don't often post images for the Macro Mondays group despite often having good intentions to do so. But for once I got around to taking a few shots around this week's theme of 'Forks'. Not much in focus I'm afraid... Taken with one of my vintage lenses, can't remember which one to be honest, and using an extension tube of some description. I need to start writing things down.

The Macro Mondays theme this week is 'Nuts', either the kind you eat or the kind you twist onto a bolt. I wanted to do something a little different so for reasons I can't quite remember I decided to put a nut in a quarter inch of water at the bottom of a glass bowl and then shoot it through the side glass of the bowl. All good so far except that I was doing this outdoors and the sun was shining and there was just way too much light. My solution was to get a piece of pink foam and cover the bowl with it. Hence the pink hues in this. So a bit of fun camera playtime to come up with this rather strange composition. I'm hoping I haven't transgressed any MM rules with this, they do seem to be quite strict!

Whenever I shoot something for Macro Mondays I always try to come up with something that I think no one else will think of. I struggled this week to come up with a unique idea but it suddenly was there, right in front of me. These out of focus other worldly looking things are actually the filaments of a solar powered garden light. It was shot on a very old vintage lens dating back to the 50s and using a couple of extension tubes to get in close. Will I see another one in the Macro Mondays submissions?... I wonder.

These miniature chess pieces are from a 30-year old electronic Kasparov pocket chess game. The pieces are very tiny, around 2cm high, and in fact remind me how much my eyesight has deteriorated because when I took these out of the box the other day I had a hard time seeing which piece was which.

I basically learned how to play chess on this little board and it was one of the first 'computer' chess games where you played against a machine. It tells you where it wants it's pieces to move to by lighting up two red lights on an X and a Y axis (you can see one glowing here). Suffice to say this little board beat the pants off me for a very long time before I started to improve. The amazing thing is it still works. I pulled it out of the box, clicked the on switch and it sprang into life. If you don't see me for awhile I may just be renewing my acquaintance with Mr Kasparov!

Macro Mondays
Theme - Matchstick
I had a couple of different ideas for this week's Macro Mondays theme of matchstick. I shot two of them, very different in the way they looked but in the end decided on this one. I called this 'Four seconds till pain" because that's approximately how long I had before that alarmingly fast moving flame travelled down the matchstick and reached my fingers. Ouch!

(Also, let me apologise for my dirty thumbnail, I was working in the garden before I shot this and like any good gardener I got my hands dirty! It happens.)
