Originally part of the Port of Bristol and the birthplace of Admiral Blake, Bridgwater was mentioned in the Domesday Book as Brugie and was built around the muddy River Parrett. Well, it's muddy today.
It once boasted a castle which was surrendered to the Parliamentarians in 1645 who destroyed it the following year.
Here you can see the buildings have a Dutch influence from its shipping and trading past.
The beautiful Victorian Bridge was erected in 1883.
