The old fishing village of Polperro, which became a port in the 12th century is noted for its history of smuggling and retains the old fishing cottages.

The church of All Saints dates from the 13th century although is now mostly 15th century with a 19th century restoration. The small bridge over the stream dates from 1830-40. Brick arch faced with blocks of dressed local sandstone front and back. Described as a small single-span bridge comprising a low elliptical arch with neatly-shaped voussoirs.

The 15th century church of St John the Baptist, Broadclyst.
The River Char is about 8 miles long, it's source being Pilsdon Iron Age Fort, it runs through country hamlets before entering the sea at Charmouth over the shingle beach, slicing the beach into two, East beach and West beach.
