The ruined Carmo Convent is one of Lisbon's most hauntingly beautiful sights. It was its greatest medieval building, but stands as a reminder of the devastating earthquake of 1755 that destroyed most of the city.

A short walk from Carmo Convent Ruins is the
observation deck at the top of Elevador de Santa Justa (Carmo Lift). It stands 147 Ft (45m) tall and offers magnificent views over the center of Lisbon, Purtugal. It was inaugurated as one of the city’s public transport systems on 10 July 1902 and now becomes one of the most popular landmarks.
