A photo to bring back Scottish memories on Burns’ Night! One of a batch of BRCW Class 27s transferred to Inverness Depot in March 1980, 27008 was recorded on 15th May that year on a service to (if my notes are correct) Dundee. The move to Inverness followed the ending of ‘top and tail’ 27s on the Glasgow-Edinburgh route in favour of 47/7s with driving trailer sets, and allowed the replacement of unreliable ‘Inter City’ DMUs on the Aberdeen-Inverness route with locos and coaches. 27008 remained at Inverness Depot until 1985 when it was transferred to Glasgow Eastfield, ending its days there in 1987.

An eastbound Southern Pacific coal train works through the 10,430-foot siding at Belden while climbing the steep west slope of Colorado’s Tennessee Pass out of Minturn on September 8, 1992. SP EMD SD45T-2Rs, Nos. 6867 and 6854, and Burlington Northern EMD SD40-2 No. 8125, lead the heavy train grinding up the three percent grade toward the town of Red Cliff.
