Selkent route 53: Whitehall, Horse Guards Avenue - Plumstead Station, Griffin Road
Diversion route towards Westminster Bridge / County Hall (E)

Diversion route takes a left from Whitehall onto Horse Guards Parade - only one stop into the route: Whitehall, Horse Guards Avenue (P) - before the end of the road forces drivers to make a left or right, in this case right, along the Victoria Embankment again forcing drivers to make a decision to turn left or right at road's end, in this case left, to re-join normal route onto Westminster Bridge, the end of the bridge leading to Westminster Bridge / County Hall (E) bus stop.

Normal route follows the Palace of Whitehall road, stopping at Horse Guards Parade and Westminster Station / Parliament Square (G), until its end at Parliament Square. These stops are bypassed on diversion route.

Route 53 is allocated at Plumstead (PD) with 11-reg Alexander Dennis Enviro400s. These operations are still shared with a fair number of Alexander ALX400s, one of them - 17837 (LX03 BYN) - of which can be seen above joining the gradually moving diverted parade of traffic on Horse Guards Parade - see what I did there? - to exacerbate the slow-moving traffic on the Embankment.
