Class 47 diesel 47209 arrives into Peterborough station from the north & presumably heading for London.
The fresh ballast and platform construction work are signs of the 1972 the track layout remodelling which swept away the old GNR station and provided high speed through lines and two new platforms at this ECML station. The ECML was electrified from the mid-80s and today's railway through Peterborough has completely changed from this early 1970s scene.
