Shot this rare Blue spotted Bee in the garden whilst setting up to shoot Honeyeaters. Some species of Thyreus Cuckoo Bees have blue spots while others have white spots. (Another kind of cuckoo bee lays its eggs in the nests of Leafcutter Bees.) The Neon Cuckoo Bee, Thyreus nitidulus, with glittering metallic blue spots, lays its eggs in the nests of Blue Banded Bees. They are rarely seen very small and fast, which makes them hard to photograph. had the Nikon D850 in Dx mode 200-500mm lens on tripod ready to shoot honeyeaters when this Bee came into the frame and hovered for about 15 secs, camera was in continuous shoot got a lot of shots but this one stood out. Enjoy

shot this large beautiful moth in our garden. About the moth:The hummingbird hawk-moth is a species of hawk moth found across temperate regions of Eurasia. The species is named for its similarity to hummingbirds, as they feed on the nectar of tube-shaped flowers using their long proboscis while hovering in the air; this resemblance is an example of convergent evolution.
