Here we are looking due south-west, where in the sky a storm front seems to be developing. In the far background is the outline of the You Yangs, a small mountain range between Melbourne and the city of Geelong on Corio Bay.

I capture a cargo ship as it makes its way south. It's familiar to me, the Searoad Tamar, probably heading for Bell Bay near George Town (Tasmania) where the Tamar River meets Bass Strait.

They say that compositionally things look better with odd numbers. I tend to agree. In this case these seven gulls are enjoying sitting into the wind. They are not moving particularly fast (hence the sharp image).

This black and white version of a snow leopard shows how well it can blend in with its environment. That beautiful coat is an ideal camouflage, especially in the snow of the high mountains where it is found in the wild.

Mountains are formed by the upward thrust of tectonic plates, and that is why the highest mountains in the world are all relatively new. If there was no movement of the earth's crust the surface would be flat, as water and weather eroded it over time.

Old mountains like Ben Lomond are constantly breaking down. A great deal of this occurred at the end of the last Ice Age as the glacier on top of the mountain melted away and dragged rocks over the side with it.

Here we see a pyramidal pile of rocks - all formed naturally as they rolled down the mountainside and came to rest in this spot. I have used sepia here to convey something of age.

A spectre is haunting the world...

From the opening page of the Communist Manifesto (1848) written by Karl Marx:

"The bourgeoisie cannot exist without constantly revolutionising the instruments of production, and thereby the relations of production, and with them the whole relations of society. Conservation of the old modes of production in unaltered form, was, on the contrary, the first condition of existence for all earlier industrial classes. Constant revolutionising of production, uninterrupted disturbance of all social conditions, everlasting uncertainty and agitation distinguish the bourgeois epoch from all earlier ones. All fixed, fast-frozen relations, with their train of ancient and venerable prejudices and opinions, are swept away, all new-formed ones become antiquated before they can ossify. All that is solid melts into air, all that is holy is profaned, and man is at last compelled to face with sober senses his real conditions of life, and his relations with his kind.

The need of a constantly expanding market for its products chases the bourgeoisie over the entire surface of the globe. It must nestle everywhere, settle everywhere, establish connexions everywhere."

The Marxist diagnosis of the world condition as a Conspiracy par excellence, has been for the past century and a half proven to be most accurate! Only the solution proposed by Communism has been an unmitigated disaster. That is because Marxist thought is incorrigibly materialistic. The real human condition needs a Spiritual solution.

Right now, we are witnessing the dissolution of all that once seemed solid and secure. What will replace it? That is THE question.
