This is a very early experimental shot. I had just taken possession of my new camera - my first ever DSLR. Prior to these early shots I had not taken photography seriously since the film age in the 70s and 80s.

I consider this one of my early "glorious failures". The failure is due to two things, (1) Using a Neutral Density filter when I really didn't need to (I rarely use them now as smoothing water seems a bit of a fad to be honest, and in this shot you can't see enough of the water anyway). (2) I was just starting out using digital processing, and so I was prepared to try things I wouldn't consider now on the program I was using at the time (Aurora HDR 2019). To say I overcooked this shot is an understatement. But then again, it's kind of nice to link a fiery sky with the original form of a "fiery" lighthouse, the Pharos.

At the Low Head Lighthouse. The more natural version and no attempt at straightening the image (since I didn't yet have that software).

This photo was taken as the sun set on East Beach, near Low Head in northern Tasmania. I was so taken by the subtle play of light on the clouds in a light blue sky that I turned my camera up to take it all in. My title reflects the fact this photograph reminds me of the wonderful skies painted by J.M.W. Turner (1775-1851).
