This red engine sits retired at the Don River Railway near Devonport. A reminder of the glories of the steam age and when Tasmanian railways were the king of transport.
2024 Note: This is complete re-edit. My original posting was in HDR, and although it was bright, this is a non-naturalistic look I can no longer subscribe to in a documentary photograph like this one. Still a lovely red engine though.

These four beautiful steam locomotives sit ready for action. Trainspotters (of which I am not unfortunately) could tell you exactly where these engines where manufactured and when they first came into service.
