Today we start looking at some aspects of life and leisure in Bridport. This little town of 1,600 people sits on the north east coast of Tasmania. To the north is Bass Strait. To the north east is Flinders Island.

In summer its numbers swell as holiday makers enjoy the beaches, the boating and the golf courses. The Barnbougle Golf Links provide two outstanding links courses, The Dunes and Lost Farm. Both have been listed by Gold Digest Magazine as in the top 100 courses in the world. It is now the main tourist attraction in the area. We'll come to those later.

But for the next few days we'll take a look at the boating side of Bridport, both for work and play.

The blue channel marker here complements the light blue sky and sea. A motor boat is returning from a morning's fishing in Bass Strait, and is about to make its way up the Brid River channel to the boat ramp. It is a perfect Spring day in Bridport, Tasmania.

The little "Sea Rider" is returning to Bridport after a successful morning of fishing. This couple probably left to fish Bass Strait early on this Saturday morning. Their minds are now probably on a refreshing shower to wash off the sea salt, and then perhaps some fresh fried fish and salad for a late lunch.

Bridport is a place where private and commercial boating interests are looked after. Here at the shipyards, repair work is carried out, and in some cases complete rebuilds of small ships takes place.

We saw the "Quiet Achiever" in our previous shot. It is a commercial fishing trawler that has returned to the dock after a night of work. This shot was taken from on board and it shows some impressive boats in the yard. We'll take a closer look at some of these in the next few days.
