Why is this dawn photograph in black and white? Because it had to be!

These dawn photos were taken just as the clouds started breaking up and the rain stopped (but literally only for a few minutes and then it was white out again). I do feel blessed at times like this because it has happened to me so often I can't account for it by luck. It's almost as if my effort of getting up in horrible conditions is being rewarded (the wind was howling as you can see from the surface of the sea). So I get a few minutes to do my thing and then the Creator says, "Okay that's enough."

[Enlarge to see the sea.]

As I mentioned yesterday, one door closes and another will open. I came to Stanley expecting to use my Nikon F90X 35mm camera to take nostalgic history photos around Stanley. But the weather and light put paid to that.

I ended up getting these photographs instead.

"Red sky at night,
Shepherds' delight.
Red sky in the morning,
Sailors' warning."

According to the folk wisdom it was going to rain. And it did, slightly.

After the sunrise lightshow in the sky, the early morning light revealed a number of elements that made an interesting composition on the water. With all these pictures in this sunrise shoot, the key was to work quickly in the fast changing light.
