In 1933 an enterprising editor in Inverness enlivened a slow news week with the story of an odd sighting in Loch Ness. The legend grew overnight and today, 70 years later, individuals still scan the dark waters of the Loch for a sight of Nessie, the Loch Ness Monster. Welcome to Invergordon, your gateway to Loch Ness, Inverness, and that area of the Highlands known as the "Great Glen." The Glen's many tales and legends even inspired Shakespeare: In Macbeth, the ambitious thane usurps the throne of Scotland after having King Duncan murdered in his sleep at Cawdor Castle. Shakespeare always took a few liberties with historical facts: the murder of Duncan actually took place in Inverness Castle and the real Macbeth was born 400 years before Cawdor Castle was built.
