Barren, but still beautiful.

I have completely run out of the ability to construct a creative title.

Image #11 for today, made with my Zero Image 2000.

Just playing with actions and textures... I went down to Waterfront Park on Sunday because I couldn't stand not knowing for sure if the cherry trees were in bloom yet. I found them still in the bud, but it won't be long now.

I love the beach, I love the Gorge, but in terms of events around PDX, the cherry trees blooming tops the list for me. I am so very enamored by those rows of soft, very delicately fragrant blossoms... indeed, I am swept off my feet by them.

Taken with my digital Nikon, who refuses to completely kick the bucket.

What's that quote? Never regret money spent on fresh flowers or books. And... I don't. Ever.

I wish I could provide an adequate explanation as to why these Sakura blossoms enchant me so. It's not even the photography... I was joking the other day that perhaps I'd better unload my cameras when I visit the cherry trees, and shoot without film in them. The experience is the about the same... I'd still compose, walk, compose, kneel, compose, chase light, compose. But what I also might do more of is just... enjoy.

I try to do that already. If you see me down there, I might be the weird girl with pollen all over my nose because I've buried it in bough after bough of blossoms. I might be sitting on a blanket at the base of a tree, reading an old book as the trees drop petals around me. I might be accidentally bumping into stranger after stranger because I'm too busy looking up, entranced by the way pink and blue mix together. But I should do more of that, really. Sometimes it's easy to chase moment after moment with a camera stuck in front of your face... when you should be spending those moments simply breathing and living, deeply, in the space around you.

Then again... who's to say that photography doesn't help me live that much more deeply?

In any case... I'm off to the cherry trees again, for Round Four. It's going to be a good day.
