… That’s All Brother, a Douglas Skytrain, is about to take off from Duxford Aerodrome with airborne re-enactors on board.

Incredibly, this same aircraft managed to take part in all 4 major airborne operations in the European theatre, dropping paratroopers over Normandy on the first night of Overlord, over Provence during operation Dragoon, over Holland during Market-Garden, and over the Rhine near Wesel, Germany for operation Varsity. She is still flying today, in her 1944 D-Day livery. Daks over Duxford

… This Lisunov Li-2 was built in the Soviet Union in 1949 under license from Douglas. It’s the last survivor of its kind.

After various tribulations, it was lovingly restored and appears in the livery of Malév, the Hungarian airline for which it flew in the glamorous Sixties.

When not travelling to air shows all over Europe, it can be seen, and even flown, at its home port of Budaörs Aerodrome, Hungary.

… this particular aircraft was built by Douglas for the US Army Air Corps, was almost immediately transferred to China, flew the ‘Hump’ over the Himalayas during the war and had such an eventful history it’s almost beyond belief.

It was finally bought by the Historic Flight Foundation in 2006 and restored to DC-3B specifications, similar to airliners operated by Pan Am in the early 1950s.
