Street Photography often pays homage to the 'f/8 and be there rule' using a 35mm lens so that decisive moments can be captured reliably sharp. This is one of a series of images I have captured, in and around the Yarra River + the famous alleyways of Melbourne, using an 85mm f/1.4 lens has been used (almost exclusively at its widest aperture or near widest aperture). This creates a contemporary and different 'look' to a traditional genre of photography. The interaction of figure and ground and increased sense of depth provided by this technique breathes new life into an old genre. Images captured early on a Saturday morning in Melbourne with Sony's Fe 85 f/1.4 GM lens. Most of the images explore how the lens performs at wide apertures (most of these images were captured at f/1.4).
