Dunlin, Calidris alpina (the larger ones) and Western Sandpipers, Calidris mauri, with some realizing there wasn't enough land to come down to.

At highest tides in the bay, most of the mudflats and edges of the bay are covered with water, leaving shorebirds with decisions to make. We watched as they repeated the process of settling down, but then flying off moments later looking for a better spot. This was only a small part of a mass of many hundred of peeps.

I was reminded recently about how much later (up to a couple months) Long-billed Dowitchers migrate south in fall compared to Short-billed. Long-billeds nest in Siberia and farthest north North America.
