I had originally not anticipated shooting lightning, because locally it is often so ephemeral. But while at the marina, it contiinued. So I quickly tried to think of where I could get an angle at which the lightning would reflect off the bay, and headed to the Morro Bay Natural History Museum. I took some long exposures to hopefully catch a flash of lightning and, while I expected the lightning reflections, the effects in the clouds were more than I expected. Photoshop helped with the noise. Morro Bay, CA

As I add this to a "most interesting" group, I add this note:
This photo has been at the top of my "interesting" list since it made the flickr Explore page and I have gotten responses from around the world. I assume the allure is the combination of lightning (with its attendant energy/electricity), landscape and reflection in a relatively uncluttered composition--at least that's what it is for me.

I really do already have almost enough avocet photos, but I couldn't resist the light after the clouds from last night's storm opened up just at the extreme high tide this morning. This is a two-part pano, both taken at 400mm. As I looked through the camera, I felt as if the birds were standing in the sky. Morro Bay, CA

Taken from kayak at a very high tide. Normally these white pelicans roost on Grassy Island in the middle of Morro Bay. But at extremely high tides that island is covered in water so they move elsewhere, this time to the sand spit. This shot was taken about an hour before the adjacent shot and just before the fog rolled in. (Here two frames were stitched together.)
