This large insect has very long antennae and I am only showing about half the length. The bluish color in the wings is reflected sunlight.

"I awoke this morning with devout thanksgiving for my friends, the old and the new."--Ralph Waldo Emerson

I am extremely grateful for all my friends and acquaintances who took time to attend my flower photography program yesterday.

When I took this photo I was so excited thinking, "Tiger Swallowtail on Tiger Lily." Well, the flower is often called "Leopard Lily," and my lepidopterist friend, Bill, says it is extremely hard to tell two species of swallowtail apart, but it may very well be Western Tiger Swallowtail, Papilio rutulus. Western Sierra Nevada, late 1990's.
