Someone is crawling through the wet grass in the early morning, but who?
Well me of course, trying to be a bug, trying to imagine what a beetle might see and think.
Should I go left up that stalk or to the right to who knows where?
How about I go straight, down that illuminated path into the light... its so beautiful....

A week of lousy weather had me scrambling for an image. Normally early October is dry with intense blue skies and beautiful fall colors. This time it is different.
But the dried up desert grasses still held something up their sleeves and a brief ray of sunshine made all the raindrops glisten like crystals.
I hadn't done a bokeh shot since the spring, so this was fun.

From my archives. I must have wanted to be a bug that day, given that I crawled around on the ground trying to see how an insect might see its world.
Do they feel a sense of accomplishment after they climbed to the top of a blade of grass?

I had started my morning run when I saw all that glitter on the grasses and the Chamisa. So I ran right back to the house to get my camera and started to work the scene. After about a week of rain the atmosphere was laden with moisture and it clung to all the delicate grasses and twigs. Glorious light filtered through the completely still air and made all the water drops sparkle. I really enjoyed that morning and after I was done I still went on my run.
I shot most of it handheld.

Quick shot before the oak bushes shed all their old leaves and give way to the new growth. They keep the old leaves all winter into early spring. I find them quite attractive in a close up when a ray of light hits them and makes them translucent.
