I thought I'd start the week with a peck on the cheek, and a hug. One last photo from my garden nesting Woodpigeons that have recently dispersed since mum stopped feeding them. This encounter looked more like a romantic embrace than filial feeding as the youngster wrapped its "arms" around the other.

And just in case "a peck on the cheek" is a peculiarly British expression it means a kiss. I remember it being used in the 1982 Kinks' song "Come Dancing";

Another Saturday, another date
She would be ready, but she'd always make him wait
In the hallway, in anticipation
He didn't know the night would end up in frustration
He'd end up blowing all his wages for the week
All for a cuddle and a peck on the cheek

A bird of wetland and marsh, the Great White Egret is one of a small group of Continental heron species that have expanded their breeding ranges northwards.

Formerly a very rare bird in Britain & Ireland, the Great White Egret can now be seen throughout the year, often in association with other herons, when its long, sinuous neck, long legs and large size can be fully appreciated as it hunts its aquatic food.
