Oakland Estuary, East Bay Rowing Club.

This boatload of adults--of all ages--is having their first experience with an oar in their hands--at least in years. Some rowed in school, 20+ years ago. Several times a year a day is devoted to showing interested people how the sport (and the local clubs) operate. Rowing is a no impact, lifetime sport. People in their 80s do it!
The rowers in the green striped shirts are leading the others. You imitate the rower seated in front of you.
National Learn To Row Day.

This is a training boat called a "barge". The racing boat is extremely long and narrow and constructed of carbon fiber.
