I used to collect old chairs with woven seats--like this one--which in the NC mountains I could often buy for about $5 from junk shops or roadside sales. Although the original seat of this one has an interesting pattern, it is in poor condition, as you can see. Eventually, I wove a new seat, after taking a class in the craft of "bottoming chairs" at John C. Campbell Folk School, a marvelous place in western NC.
