Why the campus of the University of North Carolina is called so. . . .
View across the Quad in the relative quiet of the summer sessions.
An interesting little book, the UNC CHAPEL HILL'S NOBLE GROVE: A Walking Tour of Campus Trees, by botanist Michael A. Dirr, 2010, tells all you might want to know about the campus trees!

Chapel of the Cross, Chapel Hill, NC.
Designed 1842 by Thomas Ustick Walter, later Architect of the Capitol during the era when the US Capitol, as we now know it (two 'new' chambers at either end and the large central dome), was constructed. This beautiful Neo-Gothic building has been extended over the years by wings in coordinating styles. The complex is the Episcopal presence at the UNC campus.

A lounge in the FedEx Global Education Center on the campus of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Students seek out these comfortable spots to study and relax between classes. The areas also serve as changing exhibition galleries; here in the Institute for Study of the Americas section.
