Doing a lot with a little~
This is a plain paper print of an old photograph. It is taped to the inside of the front window of a modern store on Main Street. Several stores featured these as one walked along the street, each showing information about a largely vanished Buchanan, VA--although happily many of the structures still stand, now used for other purposes.
The librarian told me these were left over from a Civil War reenactment celebration several weeks ago. She said also that they were proving so popular that perhaps they would remain in place.
What a simple way to bring history to Main Street!!

Main Street. Re-use of a former store space for the library.
I had a very enjoyable conversation with the librarian about favorite books and the history of Buchanan. Nice people!

Buchanan, Virginia.
A friendly, welcoming place to read, learn, relax. Lots of info about local history, on the walls and between the covers. Housed in a retro-fitted early 20th century store space.
They do a great job!
