The color has been lovely but BRIEF this year. I seem to remember a bit of a longer show in many years. The peak where we live, north of Asheville, was probably reached yesterday or the day before. Still lovely but many trees are already bare.

The sun sets at its most northerly point in the year at our latitude. Now the days will begin to shorten, moving toward the six month point in mid-December. The longest days are over for another year.

George checking out the summer solstice marker stone to make sure the shadow points directly to the center stone. It does! The solstice occurred at 7:05pm, our time. The sun disappeared behind the mountains about one hour later.
