Similacina racemosa. The flower bud front and center here is somewhat nipped by the three very frosty nights we had last week. According to Justice and Bell, "These plants are scattered in deciduous woodlands of eastern North America. . . . ".

Check my SET "Woods Walk"--still adding to it. I saw so many interesting wildflowers within 20 ft. of one another and within a half mile of my home.

Silene virginica. This is my favorite (brief) wildflower in our western Appalachian mountains, right up there with Cardinal flowers--I guess I like red! These are popping out on the forest floor now, not in carpets, but here and there and along the forest roadside--amazing and beautiful. Wikipedia says they bloom through the summer, but here I find them only for a short time.
Straight out of the camera.

Tiarella cordifolia
This is the variety commonly seen in the southern Appalachians, according to my trusty Campbell, Hutson and Sharp's GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS WILDFLOWERS.
Common and delightful wildflower, seen on my Woods Walk last Saturday. . . . they are everywhere, along with the native Creeping Phlox (see earlier image).
