Cosmos Club, Washington, DC.
A private club (women and men) since 1878, comprising most of the leaders in government, science, arts, and the professions. (Women admitted 110 years after founding!)
A good place to people watch.

I had an opportunity to spend a few hours visiting this venerable private club in DC. They began admitting women only in 1988 [members were driven to it by law], after over 100 years of being "men-only", greatly enhancing the quality of the membership profile !!!!
Wonderful history, despite their long-time chauvinism. . . . . most of the Washington movers-and-shakers in government, the professions, and journalism etc. belong.

Here's the full story of the building (1918) itself.
It was constructed AS the Embassy and remained such for many years.......

Almost always a crowd. . . . many of them on their cell phones. I was taking a rest in Lafayette Park while walking from George Washington University to the bus stop a few blocks north. Warm day.
Notice the sharpshooter on the roof. No wonder some of the 'inmates' over the years have felt they were living in a prison, in one way or another.
Pennsylvania Avenue, in front of the White House, has now been closed to vehicular traffic, mainly for security reasons, creating a wide area for people to walk.

Entry to a nicely restored apartment building on 16th Street, now called the Camden-Roosevelt, formerly just the Roosevelt.
Washington, DC.
Built as the Hadleigh Apartments in 1919.
Here's a copy of a news article when it was being built:
