Edited with Aviary's 'Indiglo' effect.
This favored old house is now lost. Happily, I took a few shots of it over the years, while watching it slowly decay. The owners demolished it last year.
"Buckner" is originally a German name. . . evidence of the German migration down the spine of the Appalachian mountain chain from Pennsylvania, where they first settled in this country. Now that they've been here about ten generations, most of that's been forgotten. Typically, it was Penna. into western Virginia; then after another generation or two, into mountainous western North Carolina, where many have remained. Another big German name in the area is Ingle. They operate the dominant supermarket chain around Asheville, "Ingle's".
"Tuck" was a nickname for one of the owner's given names, "Kentucky".
