at the National Historic Site, Martinez, CA.
The 1880s Victorian house where Muir and his immediate family lived for 20+ years and where he wrote most of his many books, while managing a large fruit ranch (shipping off lots of fruit to market--pears, peaches, plums, quince, grapes, you name it). Now furnished as in his day and interpreted by education staff of the National Park Service. Open most/every day. Free. Lovely grounds! The house is a National Historic Landmark.
