Change of venue. . . . my camera was at the end of its battery life, I was on a trip and no chance to buy replacements handy. . so, unfortunately, I didn't get many pictures of this lovely neighborhood and park/fountain described here. The trees were huge, for one thing, and the fountain itself very tall--you can get a small idea from the logo atop this sign.
The square features the Alexander Ramsey House, which I had hiked to see from the nearby MN Science Museum (a fabulous institution for children and adults!).

Designed by Native American architect, Douglas Cardinal. Smithsonian Institution.
An organic shape, surrounded by a landscape that is fully part of the architect's plan, embodying the natural world that is integral to the indigenous way of life.
Over 40 'Grandfather Rocks' are scattered about the museum, as reminders of the native peoples' close relationship with their environments.

. . . or near it, of the Acropolis, Ek Balam Maya archaeological zone, Yucatan. The Oval Palace seen in the distance.

Yes, I climbed this far, to see the full-round sculptures up here. The thatch roofs (you see part of one here) cover other sculptures and somewhat protect them from the elements.

Not climbing is better for the preservation of the patrimony, but the managers plan for it here, so I did a bit of it. Definitely an experience, once or twice--but not necessarily always.

Statue dedicated: 1910.
Equestrian portrait in bronze of Revolutionary War hero Brigadier General Pulaski (dead at age 34) dressed in the uniform of a cavalry commander from his native Poland. His garb consists of a military jacket with a long cape and a hat adorned with fur and feathers. His feet are in the stirrups, and he holds the horse's reins with both hands. The horse trots with its head raised up and its proper [subject's POV] right foot raised. The sculpture rests on an oval base decorated with a band of foliage and Greek key design. Wreathes flank the inscriptions which appear on the long sides of the base. Three steps lead up to the base.
Located in Freedom Plaza, at Pennsylvania Avenue and 13th Street NW, Washington, DC.

Pulaski's date of birth has been subject to contention, although it seems to have been now proven as 1745.
