Bassin du Paradis | Quai d'Angoulême 04/09/2012 20h02 Calais was a surprise on itself. This little harbour drew our attention. Bassin du Paradis A channel formed during the first millenary of our era, at the outlet of the Guînes fiver, gave birth to a port where sailors and fishermen gathered. Clened out during the English occupation in 1397, it has been deepened, enlarged and modernized over the centuries. The paradise basin which can shelter up to 100 boats in a vestige of former facilities. Its activity was jeopardized from 1900 onwards. From then on the tradition has been continued by yachtsmen and fishermen wh are not afraid of being left high and dry at low tide. At the end of Quai d'Angoulême, a sailor's calvary was erected in 1988. [ Source: Ville de Calais ] |
