Today I participated on a photo safari Shoot Wibaut with the city as subject. Everyone can participate and all you need is a digital camera. Because 2009 is the year of Wibaut the photo safari took place in 8 different neighbourhoods of Amsterdam. Together with around 20 other photographers we had 2 hours to shoot photos in Betondorp (my neighourhood) and we had to take 8 photos. No more! When the memory card was handed over to the jury it was not allowed to have over 8 photos on the card. From 147 photos I had to delete 139 photos which was quite a challenge for me. And from the 8 photos one photo was my personal 'winning photo' which is the one above.
The winning photo was made by one of our group (Martijn Bulut) and he won a trip to New York for 2.

The photo above is the corner of Onderlangs and Landbouwstraat. No PhotoShop, that was not possible and/or allowed. This is the only photo which made it to the second selection of Betondorp. The best of my 8 photos of this day.

The main theme of the Photo Safari was Amsterdam of Yesterday and Tomorrow and I thought this had to do with some history. The window of a book binding establishment on the corner of the Ploegstraat and Brinkstraat gave me some reflections of the past; the brink stone buildings of the houses close to Middenweg and Zaaiersweg.

And one of the passages of Betondorp was on my list of 'must add' items too. It's so typical for this neighbourhood. Later that day I learned that the most popular photos with 'winning material' had to do with action and interaction rather than 'architectural photos'.

The photo above is one my 8 photos I selected for the contest. One of my personal favorites, but this photo didn't make it. The gentleman on the photo is sitting in front of his house on Onderlangs. I learned that he lives for over 40 years in Betondorp.

Three boys of the neigbhourhood wondered what was happening at their Brink. Well...a photo shoot!
