The main shopping area in the center of Antwerpen. Only the Nieuwstraat / Rue Neuve avenue in Brussels is a more important shopping area in the country. Situated in the centre of Antwerp, Meir connects the Town Hall with the Central Station. Between 2002-2004 it was the most expensive shopping street in the Benelux. Since the opening of the historic Stadsfeestzaal-shopping center in 2007 the Meir regained that position. It has the highest rents of any street in Belgium, at 1,700 €/square metre/year.[1] The name comes from the old Dutch word "meere" (lake). The Meir used to be a so-called "wood lake" (houtmeer), where wood destined for use in furniture would be kept wet for a time.

KBC Tower | "Boerentoren"
Tallest Building in Belgium at time of completion. It was surpassed by the Centre Internatial Rogier (Brussels) in 1960. Often considered as the first real skyscraper in Europe. In 1954 the tower was extended with an antenna which reached to a total height of 112,5 meters.

ANVR_02 [10 points]
Antwerp is one of the invaded cities in Europe too. There is not so much to find of this invasion and this was one of the first invasions of Invader outside France. Only 3 space invaders are to be found on the internet and one of them (at Antwerpen Caal station) has been deleted. But this one seemed to be a copycat.
