Autoroute du Nord (A1) 23/06/2014 11h17
Holiday! This year we planned another road trip to the South of France, near Aix-en-Provence. Five days to get there and five days back after a week on site. Spent a great time, celebrated my double 25th anniversary with friends and took more than 3,100 photos. Soon uploaded on Flickr. This is only the first one!

Photo taken through the window pane of Stewart's car in motion on the A1 Autoroute du Nord between Lille and Paris on our way to Senlis and Chantilly. Taken about 6 kilometers before the aire de St. Leger and the village of Héninel (population around 200), not that far from Arras.

Autoroute du Nord (A1)
The A1 Autoroute, also known as l'autoroute du Nord, is the busiest of France's autoroutes. With a length of 211 km, it connects Paris with the northern city of Lille. It is managed by the Société des Autoroutes du Nord et de l'Est de la France (SANEF). The autoroute serves the northern suburbs of Paris, including the Stade de France, Le Bourget, Paris' Roissy Charles de Gaulle International Airport, and Parc Astérix. From there it crosses Picardy, without directly passing through any of the major cities of the région. Throughout Picardy, the A1 runs parallel to the LGV Nord.
Around 120 km from Paris, between the towns of Amiens and Saint-Quentin and near the aire de service d'Assevillers (the largest motorway plaza in Europe), the A1 crosses over the A29. A few dozen kilometers further north it forms the southern terminus of the A2, which branches off towards Brussels. The A1 is also crossed by the A26 and the A21, and it makes up part of European routes E15, E17, and E19. At its northern terminus, the A1 turns into the A25.
Constructed between 1954 (first part opened between Lille and Carvin) and 1967 (near Bapaume).

Autoroute du Nord (A1) 23/06/2014 11h08
The Autoroute du Nord (A1) has been invaded a long time ago. It's an official space invader as I have seen a photo of Invader putting this one on the overpass of the D48 over the A1 near Quiery-la-Motte and Izel-les-Équerchin (Rue d'Izel). Not about the source anymore.
Might be part of an invasion of the North of France as there is also a 'stand-alone' space invader in the city center of Lille.
Date of invasion: unknown

Photo taken through the window of a car in motion.

Château de Chantilly 23/06/2014 13h14
First main 'attraction' of this holiday was our visit to this palais in Chantilly. For a long time on my bucket list. We were lucky with the weather and light conditions when we arrived.

Château de Chantilly
The Château de Chantilly is a historic château located in the town of Chantilly, France. The site comprises two attached buildings: the Petit Château built around 1560 for Anne de Montmorency, and the Grand Château, which was destroyed during the French Revolution and rebuilt in the 1870s. Owned by the Institut de France, the château houses the Musée Condé. It is one of the finest art galleries in France and is open to the public. The estate's connection with the Montmorency family began in 1484. The first mansion (no longer in existence, now replaced by the Grand Château) was built in 1528–1531 for the Constable Anne de Montmorency by Pierre Chambiges. The Petit Château was also built for him, around 1560, probably by Jean Bullant. In 1632, after the death of Henri II, it passed to the Grand Condé who inherited it through his mother, Charlotte Marguerite de Montmorency.
FACTS & FIGURES:
Architectural style: Renaissance
Construction stared: 1358
Construction ended: 1882
Architects: Jean Bullant, Honoré Daumet
Location: Chantilly (town), Oise (département), Picardie (région)

Les Grandes Écuries 23/06/2014 13h18
Les Grandes Écuries, the grand stables of Chantilly. It's a masterpiece of 18th century architecture. Home to 30 show horses and offer dressage demonstrations and euestrian shows twice annually. The new Musée du Cheval (Chantilly Horse Museum) located here will have close to 200 works of art displayed in 15 restored rooms.

The D924A road in front is made of cobble stones for a stretch of about 500 meters.
