Street art with a mystery has fascinated me for years. The best examples are of course the space invaders. But sometimes people are surprised by small forms of art. Anonymous street art is actually the most beautiful gift a city could wish for.

KING VS PRESIDENT
Artist: Frankey
Year: 2017

The small image of King Kong with a Boeing 747 (the Air Force One) suddenly appeared in April 2017. It soon became apparent that it was made by the Amsterdam street artist Frankey. Frankey, who in daily life is called Frank and is the founder of advertising agency Natwerk, posted photos on Instagram that betrayed that he is the artist.
The work is called King vs President, according to those posts. "King Kong fighting Air Force One," it says. Air Force One is the aircraft that carries the American president.

The image on which King Kong now stands is the six-meter high 'Verschuivingen' ('Shifts'). It dates from 1975 and is by sculptor Ben Guntenaar. The colossal statue is made of marble. Climbing up against the wall is impossible. Exactly how Frankey has reached the top of 'Shifts' remains a mystery.
Frankey was not available for comment. A Natwerk employee says that the artist wishes to remain anonymous.

Frankey Street Art is giving the city little often unremarkable surprises. Every week a photo with one of his recent works appears in the supplement to the newspaper Het Parool. A great opportunity to take a closer look at his work. Sometimes you have to search to find it and sometimes it is already gone.
