On Saturday 30 July 2022, the largest Progress Pride Flag in the world will be unveiled in the Q-Park parking structure on Marnixstraat, above the popular and centrally located Waterkant in Amsterdam.
The flag, measuring 82 meters by 18 meters, was hung on the occasion of Pride Amsterdam.

'The discussion about LGBTQIA+ people in today's world is becoming increasingly heated and many no longer feel safe. That is why it is so important that we make our presence visible with this largest Progress Pride Flag', says Brian Fernandes, initiator of the flag and owner of Waterkant. The largest Progress Pride Flag in the world has been made possible thanks to the cooperation of Q-Park, the Pride Foundation and the Municipality of Amsterdam. Pride Amsterdam starts July 30 and lasts until August 7 and has the theme 'My Gender, My Pride' this year. 'The bigger the flag, the more powerful the message' Brian Fernandes: "I was born in Suriname and queer. It's no wonder that the pursuit of inclusion and diversity is important to me. I would like these values to be shared by the staff and guests of Waterkant. That is why Pride Amsterdam is an important event for us. A moment of awareness because the discussion about the equality of LGBTQIA+ people in today's world is becoming increasingly intense and many minorities no longer feel safe. That is why it is so important that we mark our area in which we can move safely and make our presence visible. A flag is ideal for this. A white flag stands for peace, red-white-blue is a safe home for many. The bigger the flag, the more powerful the message. With this largest Progress Pride Flag in the world we say: Amsterdam is a safe space during Pride. Here you can be who you are and love whoever you want.'

The fifth boat passing by was the first boat I saw this 25th edition of the Canal Parade during the Amsterdam Pride. In total 80 boats participated.

Amsterdam Pride
Pride Amsterdam took place from July 30 to August 7, 2022. For 9 days, Pride Amsterdam is all about "My Gender My Pride".
Everyone should feel free to be themselves. It is time to pay attention to the diversity of gender identities and our right to self-determination. We have the right to deviate from the norm and the sex we were given at birth.
Amsterdam Pride was first organized in 1996, meant as a festival to celebrate freedom and diversity. It was therefore not like many other Gay Prides, which began as demonstrations for equal rights. The latter purpose served another event, which is called Pink Saturday (Dutch: Roze Zaterdag) since 1979 and is held in a different city each year since 1981.
The peak of the festival is during the Canal Parade, a parade of boats of large variety on the first Saturday of August.
Due to covid-19 this was the first Canal Pride after two years of absence.
