Happy New Year: This is already my 16th year of this selfportrait project. In total 783 selfies including this one and 2 years had 53 weeks. Excluding the 66 photos who didn't make it to the selfie of the week but were too good not to upload on FlickR. Every week is still a challenge to find a location or subject for my fifty-two.
Promising 2024: You wil never know what will happen but I am looking forward what this year might bring. First of all Mehdi in Amsterdam for me personally. Then we will have the Olympic Games in July and August in Paris and the new haunted experience in De Efteling Danse Macabre. And hopefully peace will return to Gaza and Palestine. At least a ceasefire. And hopefully other countries will come to their senses, including Russia, North Korea, Iran and Israel.

In De Efteling, 2024 is the year of the opening of Danse Macabre. Otto and Virginie Charlatan have arrived to warn everyone about what is to come. The past writes the future...

Reason: The Spookslot (Haunted Castle) has been my favorite attraction in De Efteling since the late 1970s, but it was closed in 2022 and replaced in 2024 by something much bigger; Danse Macabre. I'm very curious to see how this new haunted attraction full of creepy twists and turns will turn out.
I was in the opportunity to take a self portrait with Otto and Virginie Charlatan.
The Charlatan's: Danse Macabre will be located in the creepiest part of Efteling, the Huyverwoud. Efteling is introducing new entertainment in keeping with the new theme area. From November 19, 2022, visitors can get acquainted with the Charlatan family and their special barrel organ Esmeralda near the construction site of Danse Macabre. The Charlatan family has been traveling the world for generations. After many wanderings, 'Professor doctor' Virginie Charlatan and her husband Otto have moved into the Huyverwoud. Virginie in particular is sure. Her whole life has been a preparation to land in this eerie place.
Danse Macabre: Danse Macabre, the new Efteling attraction that will open in 2024, will have a spectacular ride system that has not yet been built anywhere in the world. The ghost spectacle full of dark twists will soon have visitors dancing to the music of the piece of the same name. On a large turntable of 18 meters in diameter, with 6 smaller turntables on top, there are 6 choir stalls that can accommodate a total of 108 visitors. The large dial will rise, tilt and fall, spinning like a coin before falling flat. Danse Macabre becomes part of a completely new theme area. The environment is a mysterious setting in which the 20-meter-high attraction building immediately catches the eye. The theme area with catering, retail and matching entertainment will soon be the scariest part of Efteling.
Intamin, the renowned Swiss manufacturer of amusement park attractions, has developed a completely new ride system for Danse Macabre in close collaboration with Efteling. The exciting attraction is a combination of various existing attraction parts and is therefore unique in the industry. Danse Macabre can best be described as a thrill ride with immersive show technology. [ Efteling ]

Paris sous la neige...it does not happen that often and I was lucky to be able to experience some snow in combination with sun this morning...

Pourquoi?: I was lucky to be able to have a 6 kilometers long morning walk in Paris on this sunny morning with a layer of snow as a bonus on this morning in January during my 952th overnight in Paris.
Square Barye: Square Barye (or square Barry) is a green spot in the 4ème arrondissement of Paris in the quartier Notre-Dame on the Île Saint-Louis. The fondness for Barry in 1713, the decision of the Monument to Barry.
The square was named after Antoine-Louis Barye (1795-1875), famous animal sculptor of the 19th century.
The square is located at the upstream point of Île Saint-Louis. Triangular in shape, it is bounded to the south and northeast by the arms of the Seine, and to the northwest by Boulevard Henri-IV.
Served by métro line 7, station Sully - Morland.

Île Saint-Louis: One of my favorite spots in the city of Paris. One of the two islands, eleven hectares in size, 6 bridges, 7 streets and 4 quays.

A beautiful newly created walking route through my own neighborhood...

New Walking Route: On 20/12/2023 I created a nice short lunchtime walking route in the Watergraafsmeer. To make before I go shopping at Albert Heijn on Christiaan Huygensplein. Roughly speaking, the route goes over Kruislaan, Archimedesplantsoen, Galileïplantsoen, Wethouder Frankenweg, Middenweg and Christiaans Huygensplein. Length approximately 2.2 to 2.4 kilometers and duration between 25 and 30 minutes. This walk Ommetje (from the application) was my 2338th Ommetje.
Archimedes: Archimedes of Syracuse (c. 287 – c. 212 BC) was an Ancient Greek mathematician, physicist, engineer, astronomer, and inventor from the ancient city of Syracuse in Sicily.
Brug/Bridge 338: Bridge 338 is a fixed bridge in Amsterdam East over the Molenwetering. The road bridge with plenty of space for pedestrians is located in the Johannes van der Waalsstraat in the middle of the Archimedesplantsoen. The bridge was designed by Piet Kramer and built in 1928 and used the Amsterdam School style. The structure has the typical characteristics of Kramer. One of these is the mixture of brick and natural stone in the form of granite, which has also been used here in the load-bearing pillars of the bridge, which because of this change look like a stack of dam stones. The decorative wrought iron balustrades customary for Kramer have been kept to a minimum here, they are only used at the ends (abutments). The balustrades on the bridge itself are made of brick with a decorative metal ribbon on top, supported by pillars made from granite blocks. Those decorative ribbons are strongly reminiscent of Kramer's bridges in the Amsterdamse Bos. The balustrades also have the typical brickwork pattern of the Amsterdam School (alternation horizontal and vertical). The bridge was widened in the 1950s. [Wikipedia]

For the third time I climbed to the little chappel high above Bourg-Saint-Maurice toe enjoy the morning view over the Vallée de la Tarentaise...

Third Time: I climbed to the Chapelle Saint-Michel for the third time on this beautiful sunny morning in February.

Hike Facts: I started climbing at 8h40 (temperature 1° C), experienced sunrise from behind mountain at 9h09, reachted Le Replacet at 9h25 and the Chapelle Saint-Michel at 10h05. Termperature 7° C. Stayed here 47 minutes. Descend started at 10h52 and I arrived at the church at 12h04. Temperature 14° C. Climbing the 533 meters up in 1h25 (2.6 km) and down 1h10.
What Goes Up: Must go down.
