Boscobel house was built in about 1632 by john Gifford of white ladies who converted a timber framed farmhouse into a hunting lodge. It became famous after the last battle of the English civil war in 1651 when the future king Charles 11 was forced to flee for his life and hid in a priest hole. Before escaping to France.
