He was really pushing himself. I've always been impressed by people pushing themselves. Not overdoing it, but testing themselves.

Side note: photoshop newbie here. This was my first attempt at layer isolation and blur. I think I managed to isolate Dan ok and to blur the background layer. Is there supposed to be the weird halo effect? Not sure what to make of that.

So the race starts and it makes a big loop. The halfway point of the loop is just a few blocks away from the start / finish line. So I walk down there. First, second, third and fourth runners pass by. Then, wait, what? Is that Dan? It was! He was dragging his arms across the body a bit, but that is easily corrected. Fifth place at mid-race, cool as a cucumber and an easy stride.

Back-to-school dash at the local grade school. Parents, kids and teachers all get the chance to compete against each other.

Dan took 7th place overall and 4th in the men's division. At 8 years old, he was in the 12 and under age bracket and took 2nd place.

Below was the shot I was hoping for based on an image I had seen elsewhere on Flickr. It didn't turn out right though.
