I'm happy to say that Alternatives Unlimited (Whitinsville MA) has invited Joanne Zeis and me to exhibit 40 photos taken in abandoned institutions, in their Heritage Gallery at 50 Douglas Road in Whitinsville MA. There's an opening reception on Friday, January 5, 2018 between 4:30 and 7:30. In addition to our shots, the exhibit includes a selection of photos from Alternatives' archive that were taken in patient wards at Fernald School in Waltham, MA in the 1970s when it was still active (photographer Derrick Te Paske). In addition, I have arranged for the New York State Museum and the Museum of disABILITY History (Buffalo NY) to display a small collection of institutional artifacts. The exhibit will be up through February 23. Regular gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 to 4:30. Weekends and evenings by appointment.

As part of this focus by Alternatives on abandoned institutions, Robert Marsala will give a talk on Friday January 19, 2018 (snow date January 26) at 7:00 pm in the Singh Performance Center at 60 Douglas Rd, Whitinsville, MA. The photo exhibit will be open that evening before and after Robert's talk.

Google Maps should guide you there. The most straightforward route probably is to take the Lackey Dam--Douglas/Northbridge exit (Exit 4) from Route 146 and head east. If you need help with directions, please get in touch with me.

Here is how Alternatives Unlimited, Inc. describes itself: "Alternatives helps individuals with disabilities build meaningful lives in the community – lives that include real homes, real jobs and real relationships. Last year, Alternatives provided services to over 1500 people in 60 residential, employment and day programs throughout Central Massachusetts."
