It is also known as the Somali Bustard, is a striking bird found in the arid and semi-arid regions of East Africa, particularly in countries like Ethiopia, Kenya, and Somalia.

It prefers open savannas, dry scrublands, and grassy plains where it forages on the ground feeding on seeds, insects, small reptiles, and other invertebrates.
