These birds prefer open woodlands, parks, gardens, and hedgerows. They can also be found in rural areas with scattered trees and shrubs. During the breeding season, spotted flycatchers tend to select locations with a good supply of flying insects, which make up their primary diet.
Spotted flycatchers are known for their aerial feeding habits. They perch on branches or other elevated spots and wait for flying insects to pass by. Once they spot their prey, they dart out and catch it in mid-air before returning to their perch. They are skilled at catching insects such as flies, moths, beetles, and other small airborne invertebrates.
