The Great Stalacpipe Organ--
Located deep in the Luray Caverns in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley is the Great Stalacpipe Organ, the worlds largest musical instrument. Stalactites covering 3 1/2 acres of the surrounding caverns produce tones of symphonic quality when electronically tapped by rubber-tipped mallets.
This most unique, one-of-a-kind instrument was invented in 1954 by Mr. LeIand W. Sprinkle of Springfield, Virginia, a mathematician and electronic scientist at the Pentagon. He began his monumental 3 year project by searching the vast chambers of the caverns selecting stalactites to precisely match a musical scale. Electronic mallets were wired throughout the caverns and connected to a large four-manual console. When a key is depressed, a tone occurs as the rubber-tipped plunger strikes the stalactite tuned to concert pitch.

Here is another VID capture with my DSLR. I am not one much for video, but I did enjoy bringing home not only the images from the falls, but the sound too. I am assuming some will find this very relaxing. I hope everyone enjoy thses two vids that I posted. I will be back to images again tomorrow. ;-)
I uploaded this in a smaller format compared to the earlier one due to this being a longer vid capture.

I went to Shenandoah National Park yesterday for the 75th Anniversary Celebration but by the time I got there there wasn't a lot going on, other than a ton of people. So I hiked from the Byrd Visitor Center down to Dark Hallow Falls.
I have shot this falls numerous times, so this time I decided to try out the video capture of my camera. I have never been one for shooting much video, or even believing that DSLRs should have this built in. But I have come around and decided that it is sorta nice to have this feature for instances for family vacations or wanting to share nature with everyone.
Enjoy.
