Just west of St. Maries, Idaho, we wait for the morning departure of the St. Maries River Railroad’s Plummer turn at the Shepard Road grade crossing. Among the din of an awaking community and lumber mills, a faint sound of EMD 567C prime movers and wheels clattering over rail joints builds as the train approaches the crossing on a broad curve through dense woods. STMA GP9 Nos. 103 and 101 haul lumber and plywood westward to market on the morning of September 27, 2021.
