I grew up with the sound of EMD’s 567. As soon as I was old enough and allowed to ride my bicycle past the mailbox, I was spending hours in the cool shade of the Hampton Avenue overpass, watching Chicago and North Western Geeps switch cars at Butler Yard. Specifically, I can fondly remember how neat the 567-powered GP7s sounded kicking cars in the yard, especially after dark. Just after Christmas in 1983, I was at Butler Yard again, this time at night to try out my newly-received gift of a tripod (Bogen 3021; still use it today). The engineer of GP7 No. 4327 saw me with my tripod and stopped, flipped the headlight from dim to high, and let me take one quick photo. Then it was back to work, kicking cars in the darkness of Butler Yard, with 567’s singing into the night . . .
