Sets of Chicago and North Western Alco C-628s slumber the night away at the roundhouse at Escanaba, Michigan, in October 1984. The weather was dismal on this visit to C&NW’s Alco-powered ore line, and I thought I’d salvage the day’s photography by grabbing a couple of night shots at the roundhouse. To my disappointment, my home-made flashgun that fired 5B flashbulbs had broken a wire or two, so I thought my night photos might not work out so well either. I ended up shooting a few images with only available light, and this is one of them. Oh well . . . at least the roundhouse tracks were teaming with Alcos!
