Santa Fe GP60s (in two flavors) head a westbound freight through Abo Canyon, New Mexico, on September 16, 1992. I remember many times I’d be disappointed because I didn’t get an all-Super Fleet consist . . . how times change.

The westbound fuel tracks are full on the night of May 22, 1991, as three Santa Fe trains pause at Belen, New Mexico, for a quick servicing and a new crew. Soon, the trains will accelerate out of town and race into a nocturnal crossing of the desert southwest.
