A pair of new Southern Pacific GE’s heads west with a freight at Princeton, Colorado, on September 5, 1995. This is on the famed route over the Continental Divide over Tennessee Pass, and in this view, Princeton siding is in the foreground, once the location of the old main line.

A westbound Southern Pacific taconite train bound for Geneva, Utah, carefully grinds down the steep 3 percent grade of the west slope of Tennessee Pass. The train is just leaving Pando, Colorado, on September 4, 1995, and new SP AC4400CWs power the heavy train. I wish Tennessee Pass was still used today, but then again, it wouldn’t be Rio Grande or SP operating it either. A Colorado Rail Link-type operation would be great though!
